"Shmita" is a year of rest for the earth.
Why is farming ceasing in Israel?
"Shmita" is a year of rest for the earth. Every seventh year in the country of Israel is a "Sabbath" ("shmita"), when agriculture must completely stop, and certain restrictions are imposed on the use of the crop.
From all this it follows that for vegetable products from the Land of Israel, an "ehsher" is needed - evidence of their kosher nature.
In order to be sure of the kosher of plant foods, it is important to complete at least a minimal course of training from an experienced housewife or rabbi.
